Once you have those curls looking good, how can you make them last until the next wash? Let’s take a look at a few essential steps to keep your curls fresh!

Step One: Take your time on wash day.

The more effort you put into your wash day, the better. Be sure to lock in moisture by using plenty of water and then seal in that goodness with an oil or cream! Sectioning or using a brush designed for wet hair can help to distribute product evenly, which is needed to ensure all strands are coated. Don’t skimp on products or rush the process—it will show, and your curls will not last!

Step Two: Protect your hair at night.

Cover your hair while you sleep, and you will reap the benefits! Popular choices include silk scarves, pillowcases, bonnets, or buffs. If you can’t cover your hair, a good choice is a loose pineapple on top of your head. The goal is to reduce friction on your hair at night because rough cuticles will equal unwanted frizz and misshapen curls.

Step Three: Refresh your curls in between washes.

Refreshes can be kept to a minimum by protecting your hair at night, but as the days stretch beyond wash day, a good refresh can help revive your hair. Refreshes can be dry, damp, or even fully wet if needed. You can use oil, cream, leave in, gel, or foams/mousses for refreshes, such as our African Citrus Hair Oil, Organic Rose & Honey Leave-in and Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion. If your strands need moisture, a leave in conditioner mixed with a little water is an excellent choice to rehydrate the hair.

Step Four: Wear your hair in a protective style.

A great way to extend your wash is to wear your hair in a protective style whether it’s a simple bun or beautiful braids! You will minimize sun and weather exposure, limit breakage, and minimize tangles.

Hopefully these tips keep your tresses happy in between washes!
