Meet Evelina! Natural wavy/curly girl from Romania! Evelina was completely unaware of her natural hair and simply thought that she has "straight-frizzy hair" all along! Little did she know that her curls were yet to bloom after some much needed TLC.

The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

I am Evelina, I am 17, I live in Constanta, Romania, and my entire life I thought I had straight-frizzy hair that wouldn’t listen to me, just because my hair would “act” and be taken care of as if it was straight when I was a kid. At some point, I would straighten it every single day because it used to curl back again, which annoyed me at first, until quarantine started and I’ve found numerous sources that told me I might have curly hair!

My mother used to have really long, beautiful, wavy hair when she was young, but my entire life I only saw her hair short, pixie-cut. Maybe my wish of having hair like hers motivated me to begin my journey, as she is my role model. However, no one really insisted on me leaving my hair wavy, in its natural shape, since at first it didn’t have a curl pattern because of how damaged it was and because I didn’t have the right products. In fact, people even encouraged me to straighten it because “I looked prettier”.

Even at this moment, people still tell me this, but I couldn’t care less. I am the only one who gave me the motivation to start taking care of my hair and embracing its natural wavy pattern, finding the right techniques and products, which, at first, was very difficult and I almost gave up many times because my hair wouldn’t look how I wanted it to look. Even now, my hair and I are far from perfect regarding hair-care, but I’m still learning and now I love my curls, as they make me feel unique and like myself, which, to me, is far more important than just being “prettier”, which came at the cost of ruining my hair.

It is still recovering, and thanks to the curly hair community I’ve found the right products, most of them being obviously from Flora & Curl, the only products that deliver my waves great volume, definition, hydration, shine and everything else I could ask for from a product! I can’t wait until my hair fully recovers and I can share my complete journey and even boast with my scrumptious locks on your page.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

Combatting the frizz, bad hair days with lack of definition and volume, finding the techniques and the very strict products (ingredients-wise) that suited my hair type, which was both time consuming and extremely costly, though it’s been a good investment and I regret nothing. Fortunately, I found Flora & Curl and the perfect products and I didn’t have to keep seeking anymore, which is why I appreciate and support this brand so much.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

Definitely finger coiling with the Flora & Curl Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel, as I find it the most successful way to define properly my waves and give them the extra hold they need, piece by piece. Then, of course, after diffusing for volume, I SOTC with the Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil.

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

I heard about the brand, mainly about the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel on a Curly-Girl Method support group, and I enjoyed the whole aesthetically pleasing part of the packaging and the vegan formulas with natural ingredients so I couldn’t resist not to try them!

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

Definitely for the better, my hair looks exactly the way I want it to, even if it is still on the “healing” path, as it’s still quite heat-damaged.

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

My favourite product is the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam, as I use it almost everyday, both for washdays and refresh purposes. It gives me the hold and volume I need, without weighing down my fine waves.

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

I shampoo with the Rose Water Cream Shampoo, condition with the Rose Water Cream Conditioner, I sometimes rake-in a bit of the Rose Water Detangling Lotion and then a bit of the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion to get the perfect amount of hydration and nourishment, then I go ahead and style my hair (finger coil) with the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel and scrunch the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam afterwards. I diffuse my hair, and the next morning I break the cast with the Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil. I am truly afraid to try any other brand, because I am this loyal to Flora & Curl, as you can obviously see!

What sets Flora & Curl apart from other brands/products on the market? 

The formulas! I love how it’s only natural ingredients, because I’ve honestly had enough of putting harsh chemicals in my fragile hair.
