Meet our wavy girl Krysta from Alberta in Canada! Can you believe that she accidentally picked up a curl product at the shops to then find out that she actually has wavy hair?! Well, that's exactly what happened. And we are so happy that she is rocking her beautiful waves on the daily!

The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

I always thought I had straight hair! Thin, flat, dry, straight hair. I was battling frizz which I thought was dry ends by experimenting with styling creams. One day I accidentally purchased a curl cream instead of my styling cream. Amazingly, my hair produced waves! It had a shape like I had never seen before! And volume!

That got me started on reading and learning about the curly girl method. I removed my silicone and sulfate products. My hair started feeling healthier and my scalp was way less oily. I used to have to wash every day but now with a tiny bit of dry shampoo, I can go 3-4 days. I’m shocked! I learned that my hair is not really curly, but more wavy (2a-b depending on the day). So when I tried the Flora and Curl Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and Curl Volumizing Foam my hair reacted REALLY well because they were so light. Lots of products have been too heavy on my hair and led to it being weighed down. This meant having to wash it more than my scalp actually needed.

I cycle between a few product types and Flora & Curl. The Flora & Curl products give me the most weightless volume out of all of them and the scent is so beautiful. It makes me feel womanly.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

My main challenge has been finding products that work for my hair. I have low porosity and thin hair strands that are easily weighed down. So it was a lot of trial and error to figure out what would work for my hair. I also finally started to realise that I needed to cut my hair instead of going to a salon. This has made a big difference. 

What is your number 1 curl tip?

Moisture! Lots of online sources will tell you water is key, but i think a good leave-in or a nourishing refreshing spray can be overlooked as it makes such a huge difference.

Also - start small! Just a curl cream (or leave-in) and a gel or foam. I think technique and patience are more important than the products if you’re starting with quality products, to begin with. I got really overwhelmed at first and was using too many products at once.

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

My local curl specialist shop (Curl Warehouse) carries Flora & Curl and the products were among the highest rated. I also came across YouTubers who loved F&C and had hair like mine.

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

With F&C my hair is softer, bouncier, and lighter than with any of my other products! 

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

My hair seems to love it. The Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam give me beautiful loose curls with a soft hold-no crunch. It’s amazing. The scent makes me feel feminine without any migraine (yes!!). 

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

I wash and condition 2-3x per week. I use the Flora & Curl Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam on wash day and refresh with distilled water and a tiny bit of the foam. On day 3 onward I also use a bit of lotion again to add more moisture.

What sets Flora & Curl apart from other brands/products on the market? 

The scent is incredible. All-natural florals without any headache. The products are also way lighter and softer on my hair than anything else! For most of my other products, I have to water them down so they don't weigh my hair down.
