Meet Jennifer! Wavy girl from Hamilton, Canada always loved curls! However, she found it hard to encourage more curl definition in her waves. Now? Her curl definition is better than ever and her curl confidence is at an all time high!
The Journey
What inspired you to return natural?
Hi! I am Jennifer. I am from Hamilton, Canada and I always wanted my hair to be curly. I was envious of those with gorgeous ringlets with beautiful definition and volume. I was at the point where I was considering getting a perm. I spoke to a friend who is a a former hair stylist. She told me not to do ANYTHING to my hair until I tried the CGM. I agreed and set out on my journey to enhance the texture of my hair.
The first couple washes, it was evident that I did certainly have waves, and that it would take time to return my hair back to health. I started out with basic drug store products, and I was surprised that my hard work was rewarded with waves springing up all over my head. Soon, once I was getting comfortable with some basic techniques, I decided that I wanted to try using more premium products.
I began searching for products that worked for me, but I found that many of them made my hair greasy, would weigh down my waves and would flop the next day. I saw someone on instagram using the Flora & Curl products and decided I'd give it ago. Since using Flora & Curl I've never looked back and I learn to love myself and my hair a little more each and every day.
What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?
I struggled with finding what products worked for me initially. I was always gravitating towards heavy gels and conditioners. My hair guardian angel steered me clear. I won a giveaway for Jessicurl and it just flattened my waves. I had way too much product and the items I won were part of their heavier and more moisturizing side of their line. I also struggled with (and still do) with the damage at the back of my head, which frequently forgets who's head it's on and likes to stay straight.
What is your number 1 curl tip?
Take your time and practice your technique. All the products in the world will not save you if you don't know how to use them. Take your time selecting your product, and practice makes perfect. I'm still very new to my journey (2 months in) and I am still learning something new with every hair wash.
Discovering Flora & Curl
What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?
I had seen many wavies using it on their hair, ranting and raving about its protein content and light weight formulas. I was intrigued and when I first tried it, I was officially sold.
How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?
My hair blossomed in ways I did not think would happen for months down the road. Spirals began springing up like buds in the spring. I was in total shock. My hair is usually quite soft, but it was silky after using the Mini Essentials Curl Kit. Lastly, my hair stays wavy for MUCH longer when I use Flora & Curl. I would get 2 days of waves, if I was lucky. Now I can get 3 without a refresh and 4 with a refresh. It doesn't seem like a lot, but cutting down on wash days makes a huge difference in freeing my time.
Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?
I have to choose one?! I'd say my top 2 are the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel. I am OBSESSED with the scent. It's so subtle and the floral aroma really is quite natural. The Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion is fantastic for keeping my clumps together, and has great slip for a good detangling session. The Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel is a great consistency and it isn't sticky or hard to work with like other brands. It gives me a light cast that's easy to break and gives me long lasting curls throughout the week. I don't go a washday without them.
What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?
To wash I use the Rose Water Cream Shampoo and condition with the Rose Water Cream Conditioner Once I scrunch out the conditioner, I scrunch in some Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel. I dry plop for about 15 minutes before diffusing and going about my day. Simple but it works!
What sets Flora & Curl apart from other brands/products on the market?
I love the natural floral scents, the protein content/balance the product line gives my hair and the lightweight formula doesn't weigh down my curls.
